Peacock Jewelry Symbolism

I have always been drawn to peacock designs and colors.    The shades of blues and greens always seemed so mystical to me.   The use of peacock designs in jewelry goes back many years.   It is still popular in today's modern fashions.  

What is the symbolism of the peacock motify in design?   Going to back to the ancient Hebrews, peacocks were symbols of creation.   In Greek and Roman times, peacocks symbolized vision and immortality.   In Hinduism, peacocks are symbols of patience, kindness, and good luck.   In Asian spirituality, peacocks symbolize love and kind-heartedness.   In Christianity, the peacock symbolizes resurrection, renewal, and immortality.

Green Jewelry

Happy St. Patricks Day!  Green represents freshness and renewal.   Fortunately for us, this year Pantone Color of the Year is Emerald!    Green has always been featured in vintage jewelry in many different shades and materials.   Fine gemstones such as emerald are always popular, but a bit on the pricey side!  For more affordable options, try agate, jade, turquoise, aquamarine and periodot.  

In modern times, Emeralds have been worn and prized by celebrities including Marlene Dietrich, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Jackie Kennedy and Sharon Stone.   Queen Elizabeth II also had an amazing collection of emerald jewelry.   Emerald is the traditional birthstone for May.
